Diamicron MR 60 is indicated for adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus when diet, exercise, and lifestyle modifications alone are insufficient for controlling blood sugar. It contains Gliclazide, a second-generation sulfonylurea class antidiabetic agent. Gliclazide works by enhancing insulin secretion from the pancreatic beta cells, thereby aiding in the regulation of circulating blood glucose levels. Additionally, it improves peripheral insulin sensitivity, which facilitates better glucose utilization and leads to a reduction in blood sugar levels.
During treatment with Diamicron MR 60, your healthcare provider may advise you to adopt supportive lifestyle changes, including maintaining a balanced diet, engaging in regular physical activity, and avoiding alcohol consumption to enhance therapeutic outcomes.
Before starting Diamicron MR 60, inform your physician if you have any hepatic or renal impairment, endocrine disorders, genetic conditions such as glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency, or if you are malnourished, fasting, or following an irregular meal pattern.
Diamicron MR 60 is not intended for patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus. Consult your doctor before using this medicine if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or currently breastfeeding.
The most frequently reported side effect of Diamicron MR 60 is hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), which may manifest as intense hunger, sweating, tremors, weakness, or irregular heartbeat. To prevent this, your doctor will monitor your blood glucose regularly and may adjust your dosage as necessary.
Pregnancy:
Gliclazide is not recommended during pregnancy. If you are pregnant, suspect pregnancy, or are planning to conceive, consult your doctor before using this medicine. Your healthcare provider may consider insulin therapy as a safer alternative during pregnancy to maintain optimal blood glucose levels.
Breastfeeding:
Use of Gliclazide while breastfeeding is contraindicated, as it may pass into breast milk and pose risks to the nursing infant. Alternative treatments are advised for lactating mothers.
G6PD deficiency: Risk of hemolytic anemia. Consult your doctor before use.
Elderly patients and those on CNS-active drugs or beta-blockers may not notice hypoglycemia symptoms easily.
Stressful situations (fever, trauma, surgery) may require a temporary switch to insulin therapy.
Hyperglycemia symptoms (e.g., thirst, frequent urination, dry skin, fatigue) may appear if treatment is insufficient or interrupted.
In children (due to lack of clinical data)
During pregnancy or breastfeeding, unless clearly needed (consult physician)
